And so I think the first thing I would say in leading change in an organization is get as factual as possible. Theres two, okay? You say, Well, John, that seems really simple. Again, Johns second point was youre making it public. Id give you a standing ovation if I could. The New Year always brings with it big ambitions, big dreams, and big change! I was like a plane circling an airfield trying to come in for a landing. You want to grow in an area of choice and you want to grow in an area of skill, so thats two. Before you can make big change in your organization or in your family, in your community, that change has to begin with you. So lets say you take a team, like our organization, how do you prepare, even those that have the leadership capabilities, how do you prepare them for change, to see the same things that you see and get excited about the overall vision of what that change will give you? Because when you prioritize that and this growth, and the intentionality of growth that Johns talking about here. Do you have a template? I borrowed somebody else; her name was Sharon Burchum. What was interesting is I still could come back and say, Our common problem was momentum.. Were going to really put this out there for our podcast family, because youre going to be able to grow yourself. When you start identifying the areas that youre going to grow in, it should be at least two, and no more than five. Gary Keller wrote a book called The One Thing, and he talks about how that leaders need to synthesize down to that one thing they need to be focused on. The skill set comes in, in what I set with rigor. I want to talk a little bit, I want to lift the curtain on some things that youve been growing personally. I think it comes from family and just understanding that I was born to lead. Thats what I did, Becky, when I was asked, Hey, whats your growth plan? 23 years ago, I was asked, Whats your growth plan? And I went, I dont have one. They are the same age: three to five years. 1) Before You're CANDID With Someone, Show Them You CARE. He was able to make that because the only guarantee of tomorrow is going to be better is because of growth today. Before you can make big change in your organization, your family, or your community, that change has to begin within you. And yet the world around is changing and theres not a tribe of leaders that are catching the vision that weve got to go back and build on the basics of leadership, which is all about valuing others, which is all about putting others first, which is all about killing our agenda as the leader and making the agenda the peoples agenda.
